Bohol, Philippines – The Bohol Association of Non-Government Organization, Inc. (BANGON) in partnership with the Institute of Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) and AktivAsia, successfully conducted a transformative training event from September 3-5, 2024, at the Bohol Plaza Resort and Restaurant. This third module of the CSO Capacity Development focused on Campaign Strategy, Organizing, and Leadership, aimed at strengthening the capacity of Civil Society Organizations to advocate Renewable Energy in the Province of Bohol.

The event brought together key members of BANGON and various representatives from recognized and active organizations: Mr. Efren P. Ortiz of Confederation of Evangelical Ministries Association of Bohol Inc. (CEMABI), Ms. Virginia L. Amoncio and Mr. Eufemio O. Abaniel of Carmen Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CSNMPC), Mr. Francisco S. Mascardo Jr. of Community Awareness and Services for Ecological Concern, Inc. (CASEC), Mr., Froiland D. Curato of First Consolidated Bank Foundation, Inc. (FCBFI), Ms. Joan B. Ocdol of World Vision Development Foundation, Inc.(WVDI), Dr. Gloria T. Casabal of University of Bohol Community Development Foundation, Inc. (UBCDFI), Mr. Ernest Noel P. Socong of Bohol Island State University (BISU), Ms. Chona T. Milana and Mr. Josueh Gulayan of Bohol Integrated Development Foundation, Inc. (BIDEF), Ms. Ma. Socorro A. Trinidad of Rural Multi-Purpose Cooperative (RMPC), Mr. Christian L. Ampasin and Mr. Nemrod E. Dolotina of Soil and Water Conservation Foundation, Inc. (SWCFI), Ms. Josine U. Galolo and Ms. Ma. Avirel Jane C. Lumayno of Participatory Research, Organization of Communities and Education towards Struggle for Self-Reliance (PROCESS) Bohol, Inc., Engr. Melissa P. Libres of College of Engineering and Architecture-Bohol, Mr. Antero M. Calipusan of Loboc People’s Council, Ms. Ma. Kristel Jane L. Tahil of Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines, Inc. (IMAP), Ms. Edeliza V. Macalandag of Clean Energy Advocates of Bohol, and Mr. Bon Steve L. Gibalay of Angat Gen C. The collective presence of diverse organizations illustrated a united front in advancing Renewable Energy initiatives.
Opening the training, BANGON Chairperson Mr. Francis Bernard I. Batoy delivered a welcome message, followed by a project overview from Project Manager Engr. Jerry David Aguilar. The participants were led through a recap of earlier modules focusing on Climate Change, Just Energy Transitions, The Bohol Energy Situation and Potential Renewable Energy, and the salient provisions of the Clean and Renewable Energy Code of Bohol. These were discussed by Engr. Jerry David Aguilar and Mr. Primitivo N. Fostanes.

The training sessions were facilitated by Mr. Francis Joseph Dela Cruz and Engr. Elainne Lopez of ICSC and AktivAsia who expertly guided the participants through key discussions. The attendees engaged in identifying pressing issues surrounding renewable energy in Bohol, leading to four particular areas: (1) Research and Technical Capacity Building on Renewable Energy, (2) Renewable Energy Policy, (3) Network/Movement Building, and (4) Driving Renewable Energy Investments.
Interactive workshops allowed participants to set goals and objectives, engage in stakeholder mapping, and conduct power analysis. This created a collaborative environment and empowered participants to craft effective campaign strategies for promoting Renewable Energy solutions.

In conclusion, the training not only equipped participants with essential skills and knowledge but also fostered a sense of hope and collaboration among local organizations, marking a significant step forward in the pursuit of a greener and more sustainable future that will benefit the environment and the local communities in the Province of Bohol.
